TOURNER DE L’OEIL
Optical Sound Installation presented at DAÏMON in Gatineau, 2014
and The Knockdown Centre in New York, 2015
Tourner de l’œil [spin-off] at once represents and reconstructs the principle of optical sound, in which the direct capture of light waves are transformed into sound. A video camera is attached to an electric drill that is spun while filming the iconic, luminous cross of Gatineau, Quebec. At variable speed of rotation, the camera’s eye plays with the fluctuations of the cross’s light, generating continually transforming visual patterns and oscillations in sound.
